Hi all
I know some of you have used Smoothrite to do forks, however did you used te aerosol or brush it on? Ive had one go at my bb forks and have stripped it back again, result wasnt great.

Prep wise is just rubbed down to a good finish the applied te paint, but did you guys use any extr primer etc?

i have used smooth rite lots of times on various things ,stands fork bottoms etc, you can use the thinners and thin it down a bit , won't show the brush marks. i have never used a undercoat . can't use anothercoat for a day or two , goes all lumpy else .

I did the fork legs & lower clamp about 18months ago, I did them in-situ but obviously minus the wheel, front guard & calipers in place. After rubbing down & removing all the existing shite finish I applied smoothrite (black) using an aerosol - no primer. At first the paint looks so watery that you think it won't work, but light coats are the way to go, otherwise you end up trying to give a nice solid colour in one go which will only result in paint runs. I ended up doing about 8 coats or more, now into it's second winter and bar some light chipping it looks as it did when I sprayed it. A job well worth doing.
