Airbox connection

What is the purpose of the self tap screws through the airbox body to venturi snorkels, two on each side?

To stop em being blown apart when/if the thing backfires

They're obviously an add-on. I didn't know what they were for. I took them out. When my bike occasionally backfired it blew the throttle bodies off. Several times. It caught fire each time too. I posted a thread. Someone pointed out a recall to add the screws (thanks). I put my screws back in. I think later inlet stubs are improved a bit to stop it happening.
