Loads of stuff on here about fitting a Y-piece, Matt ... which will get rid of your cat. Few different makes and they come up for sale here and on eBay all the time ...

I run the same thing - standard cans with a y-piece and K&N filter ... works fine on standard set up as far as I can tell and sounds a lot better wothout being too loud - makes the bike more responsive (so it 'feels' faster).

As for the link, no idea ... and quite frankly. no no NO!!! You bleeding yanks!

Cheers, H.

oooh, there is an old thread somewhere (so keep looking) from someone who took a can opener to his stock silencer, did the business, and welded it back up. There are pictures too! I remember that his overall opinion was - it worked fine, but it was a hell of a lot of work. Depends what you'd call a lot of work - I'd do it! Plus, you'd get a silencer that was A; decently fitted & mounted (unlike some aftermarket items) & B: stamped road legal (ahem). Hopefully the chap who did it is still on this this forum & can help you find the thread. It'd take a bit more skill to make your own y-piece - you'd have to tack the flanges & tailpipe of the OE collector into a frame/jig, then chop out the big box and weld in some bends and a Y.

You get quite a few standard cans up on eBay ... maybe get a pair and work with them in case 'something' goes wrong

I am doing the same with a pair of standard Triumph cans at the moment.

Got a brand new pair for £25 on Ebay - now cutting the originals ... like r550s says they will be 'road legal' too ... of a sort.
