The boulder story

Post by Man-of-Mystery »

A chap decides to build a rockery in his front garden and, to save himself some money, also decides to go and pick up the raw materials himself. Having made his choice of boulders and smaller chunks of quarrywork, he goes home and fetches his pick-up.

Back at the merchants, a sturdy assistant helps him load them onto the bed of his pick-up, and off he goes, quite happy, with his suspension not quite bottoming.

When he gets home, of course, he finds he has a slight problem. He only has one pair of hands, and has to get the load down from the bed of the pick-up. After a bit of thought, he backs it right up to the spot where he wants to deposit them, lowers the tailgate, and leans a plank against it to act as a ramp. He then begins to roll the largest boulder down the ramp.

Unfortunately, and obviously, it isn't perfectly round, and it begins to over-balance. He can only just manage to hold it where it is, on the plank. If he relaxes or moves it will come crashing to the ground, out of control.

He is just about to lose grip on it, when a neighbour's wife happens by. Immediately appreciating the situation, she rushes over and helps him steady it. Together they gingerly manage to lower it successfully to the ground.

He gratefully accepts her assistance with the rest.

Meanwhile, his little son, who has been watching from the front window, shouts back to his mum in the kitchen.

"Mum, come and see... Mrs Smith is helping dad get his rocks off!"
