770 miles this weekend

Post by f90x »

well, I would have loved to have gone to Hawes this weekend but I had already booked to go to France. However, rain stopped play and so a mate and I went to Wales instead. Brilliant. Across the Severn bridge then North to the A40 and over to Brecon carry on West to St davids, then up to Porthmadog and hoon all around Snowdonia national park and then back down the A5 and then the tedium of the motorway back home.

A great three days but what is going on with that buffeting. Anyone have an answer. Higher screen? Higher screen with a lip? A screen with one of those extra doo daas on the top? I had double vision on occasions, it's too much.

The vibes were too much on the motorway on the way back too. I had to slow to 80 on far too many occasions just so I could get some feeling back in my hand and operate the controls. Otherwise I'm really enjoying it.

Had to top up with oil when I got back too. Never had to do that with my CBR600 after 1000 miles. good job I checked after reading about oil usage on this site.

I used my panniers with the BIG lids for the first time too. Only hit two cars, a tree, a door frame and my mates bike. Not bad for a first effort I thought, although I don't think I shall use them again as I'm sure they upset the handling. They make the back seem disconnected and it feels like the back is moving around in the faster bends.

This describes almost perfectly the feeling I had with panniers on my old R1150R. It may be psychological, but I recognise what you're saying!

Must be the springs, cause I cannot tell the cases are on and I can feel everything the bike does. I did replace the stock springs on my S Sport as they were waaaaay too soft for me. Full preload was just enough for me without luggage.

So you may want to check in that direction.

:D They certainly add something to the biking experience... I tried to take out a concrete bollard with one of mine in a car park...

I find their usefulness outweighs any effect on the handling - and the best thing is the performance upgrade to the bike when you take them off...
