I need to replace the exhaust downpipes on a non-BMW bike and am a little confused over the different grades of stainless steel. What does the grading mean and what is a good quality grade for the downpipes.

Cheers

A2 is bog standard quality
A4 is marine quality

However just about all downpipes are made of cheapo ductile stainless steel and will be average.

Be prepared to polish on a regular basis.

Somebody is selling A2/304 grade. Any ideas on what the 304 is as I have also seen 300, 301 and I think 302.

304 is good enough for exhausts - there are very few that will be made from 316L (high quality - marine).

304 will be good enough for bolts on a bike, I would have thought :?

Al :D

(edited cos I got mixed up with 308 dissimilar rods and 304)
