Oil change

Post by Cobbster »

Hi all,

Its oil change time again and I was wondering if anyone has used BMW's own brand 20/50 for motorcycles?. Is it any good and whats the price of it. I've been using HD oil for the last couple of changes with good results in terms of consumption and reduced noise but I think its time for a change.

Cheers, Cobbster.

I thought BMW had stopped selling their own branded oil a while back.
No longer a motorcycle owner.

Hi all,
Got the oil changed today using BMW's own 20/50 for motorcycles. A bit dear though, £38 for 5 litres including filter and crush washer. Like I said, the bike performed very well on the Harley Davidson stuff burning just under a litre in 4K miles lets hope the beemer stuff does just as well. I'm off on a 1K plus mile trip upto jockland next week so should get a good indication of how the bike performs.

Cheers, cobbster.

The point seems to be that putting semi-synthetic oil in your machine is a waste of money. Once you're run in use fully synthetic and nothing else. Also use the best filter you can lay your hands on.

Theres nothing on the can of BMW oil that suggests that its semi-synth, nor does it say that its mineral for that matter!!!! I'm now confused :?

Cheers, cobbster

Hi Flash,

The bottle has a picture of a single spark 4 valve boxer engine on it. Lettering is ' BMW high power oil. SAE 20W-50 HD motor oil for motorcycles. ACEA: A2, API: SG'

Not a mention of oil type unless its hidden in secret code.

Cheers cobbster.
