Starter Relay
Just back from a 1,400 mile trip round Scotland which was pretty amazing and managed to avoid the rain by following the weather reports. Was pulling into a garage in Wick when the bike just cut out and would'nt start. I was panicking a bit as I thought is was the fuel pump as I could'nt hear the whirring noise when turning on the ignition as a busy road was nearby. In the end it was the diode or whatever within the starter relay which completes the circuit. I took the plastic cover off the left electrical electrical box and then removed the cover off the relay box so that I could reach a gloved hand under the nose of the fairing and operate the starter relay by hand. Bike fired up no problem and we were mobile again. I've had a couple of these relays go on me when I have been connecting up the optimate charger. If I switch the mains power on and then connect the optimate charger it seems to blow this relay. Does'nt happen if I connect up the optimate and then switch on. Seems strange. The above is a good remedy for anyone else who might have a similar problem on the road.
