How do I make my Zumo 550 work in france
It's a europe model, ive got all the maps uploaded but I dont know how to put french/spanish addresses into it. ITS DRIVING ME MENTAL!!! 2hrs and ive got knowhere. I load the postcode but foriegn addresses are awkward and i end up with about 20 in the local area. I enter Valencia and then get 6 options for valencia. How am i supposed to know?

Hi,maybe someone with a Zumo can help, but in the meantime....
Ive got a Quest which uses the same mapping SW (City Navigator V9) as your Zumo. On the Quest also finding addresses is the least favourite bit about ownership IMO. I have found 2 ways
1 Set up waypoints for the places you want to go (or may want to go ) on the PC and then upload the waypoints file to the Zumo. (quick and easy once the progs are loaded and set up)
2 If you must use the Zumo to do the search and you have an address and postcode, use the address search rather than the postcode. On the Quest (and this may be different for your Zumo as it has all Europe maps loaded) I first specify which country, then city, then address. So far, I didn't have a problem with excessive numbers of the same city name.
Reading the Garmin blurb for the Zumo, it seems as if they are reccomending something like option 1.

The other option, if your're out on the road and you know approximately the location on a map of where you want to go, is to zoom and pan around the map on the zumo screen with your finger. If you swipe your finger across the screen, the display goes from the 3d navigation view to a 2d map which you can then zoom in an out of using the two on screen buttons in the top corners, and pan around by putting your finger on the screen and dragging. Once you can see the place you want to navigate to, zoom in to get an accurate position and tap the screen over your destination. You then get the option to save that as a waypoint and/or route to there immediately.
As suggested above, the best plan is to create a bunch of waypoints in Mapsource before the trip and download them to the Zumo before you go. I generally back up all of my existing UK waypoints to my PC using mapsource, delete them all from the zumo and then load the foreign ones I need for the trip. On my return, I delete the foreign waypoints and reload the saved copy of the UK waypoints.
It's also worth creating any routes you plan to ride/drive in mapsource before you go. I auto route from source to destination in mapsource and then fine tune the routes by dragging them onto interesting looking roads.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Paul

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.
Thanks guys. You've sort of confirmed what I was concluding myself. I was just hoping that I would be able to get the address on the zumo instead of through mapquest.
I'm doing this... http://www.ramshacklerally.com/valencia/aboutUs.html
Check out our car.. http://www.flickr.com/photos/72679533@N ... 242572339/
It's complete now and in tastefull shades of Oak, Cherry and the nice Teak you see here.
I'm leaving tomorrow and the links to googlemap addresses that we have been given don't have ueable co-ordinates so I shall have to print off the maps and then see if I can find the actuall address on Mapquest and waypoint it.
Thanks again for your help
