The Y Piece prevents the engine being strangled by exhaust gases that can't escape the engine
The difference on my GS was remarkable
Not tried an 1100s with a cat , but my boxer cup with y piece goes well!
can't have a y piece and K&N though without power commander or a laser chip, i have had to go back to a standard filter, engine had a flat spot and ran too lean
Anyone got a twin spark laser chip for sale????

Yes you can,i ran mine for the best part of 6 years with an open system a K+N and then a SJ filter,it's only in the last 12 months i fitted a PC,yes it's better(miles) but it ain't life and death.

sounds like you got away with it
mine was very lean on one cylider, white plugs the norm when ridden hard
its tons better with the standard air filter, i would like to try it with the laser chip , must be a hoot

Didn't know the twin spark had been around for 6 years.
My 2 spark was the same before the laser chip. it was a melt down waiting to happen.
Maybe the single spark map was more generous?

Short thread hijack (sorry Mooseman) Can anyone say what power increase can be expected from replacing the cat with a y-piece, and making no other changes? End of hijack

In my experience, you won't find anymore top end power with the Y piece, but more mid range.

Agreed having done the same, and they don't rattle.
With just the y piece mine is putting out 82 bhp (which would be lower than most)but i've no before and after dyno comparison.
