Excellent reading, Desmo! There are some fine amateur detectives out there. You definitely need some popcorn though, as it's up to 59 pages now...

Apparently the VXR is a limited run special, so makes provenance and history particularly relevant and important. Also has effect on the value of the car.
This guy Imran originally posted an advert on the forum to sell his VXR.
He was questioned about the history etc. He claimed it was all straight, genuine etc.
Some other forum members believed they had proof that the car had been previously pranged and repaired.
Imran claimed he nothing about the the car's previous history, then claimed that the car in the photos was a different one to his.
It seems that he is registered o the forum with more than one alias, so that's clouding the issue.
It's still running now - and as far as I can see, it's not yet reached a conclusion.
Is this guy guilty? Buggered itf I know.

Grom. this is a copy of one of the posts, and pretty much sums it up:

Quote
For me personally it all sounds too much of a coincidence.

Lets look at the evidence:

VXR - debadged, de-vee'd

Seller - Somone with the same user IP address comes on this site buying several parts for a VX - windscreen / Crash Box / Rear undertray / Soft Top / Turbo rear clam. Changes username as you have forgotton password. Why not click the 'forgotton password icon'???? and get your password refreshed

Brother owns a Bodyshop that you use to access the internet at 20:00 / 23:50 / 01:19 - Even Thorney doesn't work that late!!.

Several items purchased from eBay that correspond to a VX repair:
Foglight
Brake disc
Passenger Air vent
Wheel Arches (2nr)
Wheel Bolts
Lower rear wish bone

All the above purchased during dates that, by your own admission, was during your VX ownership.

Surely if your brother was an accident repair specialist he wouldn't be buying the stuff off eBay???

For me my decision is made. I would love for you to prove that this car has a clean history and you are unaware of the repair. If you can do this then I will offer my sincere apologies. All I will say is that if you sell this car without disclosing a major repair, that you know of, this is misrepresentation and is a criminal offence!!!
end quote.

Later on in the post, he admits that his car was repaired and also that he bought the car from his "brother", who happens to be part owner in a repair shop.

Imran also bought a number of VXR parts via ebay over the past few months, claims that he uses his brother's pc at work (at 1am) and also that his brother bought the parts using his ebay id.

Imran then proceeds to get really nasty and start throwing his teddy, however doesnt want to produce various date from his logbook.

The supposed "real" owner of the repair shop claims that Imran's brother is a silent partner in the business and that Imran is only associated with them because he designs their web page etc. Strange that the car in question seems to be resident at the repair shop.

He's either a complete nugget who's tried to pull a fast one and also severly damage the reputation of a decent repair shop, or he is an innocent muppet (yeh right).

Looks to me like he should have just announced the sale as a damaged repaired car, because when you look at what everyone has on it, he seems to have been a bit naughty

The whole thread gets a bit silly, but the overall result is pretty effective as nearly every car owner group in te UK now knows of him and where he is.

Got to page 34... and got bored... turns out that Imran may even be his brother if you know what I mean... went to the end page 64 and they are still saying the same thing...

It's nice to know they were looking after their fraternity... as I am sure we would on here if we were in the know. Must say though their moderators were a lot "looser" than ours... after page 20 odd all was out.... but they let it drift on. I am not in favour of censorship... but it did go on a bit. I think they will make a film about this... "the longest thread in history"
