Wrecked Bike
Hi to everyone.Just a message to say my beloved 1200s has been written off after an accident in France.I luckily got away with a broken hand and some damage to my legs.It was on the N85 Route de Napolean between Grasse and Castellaine and hit a patch of diesel on the exit to a corner.Spent a few days in a french hospital where i was looked after very well.To anybody going away make sure you have holiday insurance they seem to ask for money almost straight away.Be safe wherever you go.

Hi thanks for comments.I got my insurance from the post office for £25.I was taken to the local hospital at Castellaine first and was x-rayed there, that cost me 100 euros. Then i was moved to another hospital by ambulance for another 100 euros.I showed my european health card for both of these but they said they didnt accept it.When i got to the next hospital at Digne le bains they at last accepted my health card, even then it was only subsidised.I was visited by the hospital social worker and i gave him my insurance phone number and everything was then sorted out.I spent 4 days there.I was then moved via taxi to Nice airport and flown home and brought home via private ambulance. The return trip was all arranged by my insurance.approx costs home were £750.The insurance has since refunded my x-ray and ambulance costs.
Just waiting now for my insurance and gap insurance to pay up so i can get another bike hopefully another R1200S.

Ditto, and if anyone buys anything different for god sake read the small print, you be amazed home many policies don't cover big bikes, their more than happy to take the money off you,and i unclude both the RAC and the AA,bike breakdown cover is fine but the small print on both of e'm is iffy on the medical thats why i went with CN,apart from the fact i know someone who's been scrapped up off the floor and shipped home by e'm.Boxadog 2000 wrote:I generally just get regular insurance, but after a comment from Chris I now have an annual policy from Carole Nash £100 all in for me & Jude.

Thats very interesting Ian, for a number of reasons.
1, the terms and conditions of the post office insurance specifically excludes motorcycling! as do most low cost ins policy's (at least it did last year when I checked it out! ) so for them to cover you is great news
2, The e111, or as it is now, the european health card, only guarantees the same level of access to services that a local would receive, ergo, in france, xrays are not free, nor are ambulance services amongst other servces
so yes you should expect to be charged at the point of contact.
3, on a purely selfish / vulturistic note
what goodies have you now got available? akro end can perchance?
cheers
steve

Guilty as charged, although, in my defence, I did wait nearly 8 hours before pouncingherrman wrote: Your a bl--dy Vulture Steve, Guys already said another 1200S with any luck

Hi Steve i asked about riding bikes and they said it covers you if its your bike and not one hired whilst away. The only things to survive the accident was my luggage frame and my hugger and ill be keeping them. The bike is a real mess, about the only thing that survived was the engine.Hopefully getting another r1200s soon.
