Has anyone heard of or seen Lee (Randy Mamola BCR from Teddington) lately? (I think he signs in here as Horse 27 or something similar). He set off touring USA on a trial bike and I havn't heard from him since. I'm planning a bit of an 'Adventure' and need his input, ... so if anyone has any news I'd be mostly appreciative.

Never did I think I would see the day when I had a thread named after me ... makes me proud.
How is it Geoff?
Yep, back from the Baja ... was an excellent trip. Flew into LA and then South from there (some of the national parks in California are worth a look too) ... crossed the border at Mexicali/Calexico and back through Tecate. Both OK and easy with a Brit passport (get insurance at the border - £75 for three weeks fully comp - and make sure you pay immigration a visit - we rode back to check and you do need to stop!).
We travelled slow (off-road) so only made it down just South of Mulege ... only one road in Baja (MEX-1) - all the rest is piste .. .and very bad piste at that. Lots of military checkpoints too - same all over Mexico.
Bahia de Los Angeles, Santa Rosalia, Bahia Conception all good. Puertocitos (just south of San Felipe) has a bar (with no beer) called the Cowpatty which is to be recommended (bring your own). All very quiet and chilled out - but my mate carried on to Cabo San Lucas and hopped over to the mainland from La Paz and they were both heaving (he is still there just near the Guatamalian border ... lucky bastxxx)
Blah blah blah ... all good mate.
For adventure, cheap bikes and travel, great food, good people do India fella ... you'll never look back
Bullet Wallas in Delhi do a buy back scheme which is meant to be good ... but at £900 for a brand new Enfield you can't go too far wrong (and everyone can fix one ...)
But, having said that I currently have a pristine 2005 XR650L (with big tank, guards, new tyres, etc etc etc) for sale in Minnesota if you want it for a trip into Canada and Alaska
At the ridiculous exchange rate it'll be cheap out there at the moment - you can have the XR for £2k ONO - more details on request.
Anyway .. going on a bit (as usual) ... catch you later, Lee.

Glad to hear you had a great time Lee, totally jealous mate.. but it's a shame your XR is in USA and not here. As 'Big Al' has never been outside of England in his life,.. I've convinced him to take a little trip. UK through Europe, Russia, Siberia to Vladivostok. Ferry to Japan, then freight to west coast. Intention at the moment is to then cross USA, but i sort of feel that whilst we're in that neck of the woods, .. it would be rude not to do South America too. Hoping to kick off April 2008 and giving ourselves a year. I want to use TT600's/XR650's, .. but Alan wants his creature comforts so we might end up on Transalps or Africa Twins or something else way too heavy (BMW's seem a bit A: Expensive and B: Cliche). The budget is basically, .. well, ... 'basic', .. so I guess well be 'Potless Pilgrims' living from the milk of human kindness and various degrees of 'Blagging'. I'll find your eMail and give you some more 'indepth'.
