I'm sure this has been discussed before but what is the general concensus on how to wear ones gloves? If I tuck my gloves in, will the rain be forced up the sleeves when going along? Or if the gloves are done up over the jacket, will the water run down the sleeves into the gloves?
I've been riding for twenty odd years but I've never really thought much about this conundrum until now
If the gloves are tucked under the jacket paul then the rain will down your sleeve and then of your gloves and your hand will stay dry,as long as youv'e got goretex gloves of course
regards tim.
Depends in if you are riding a sports or cruiser and the following only really only applies to wet weather riding.
Sports - glove under jacket so water runs down sleeve and over glove
Cruiser - glove over jacket so that water runs off the glove and onto the sleeve.
For me - summer gloves over sleeve and winter gloves under sleeve. As for the snow and ice - can't tell you as I can't feel my hands to know what's what!
Hard to answer when you ride in a short sleeved shirt most of the time. Don't tell the BMW owners club as they will start another 2 year, 500 post thread about it!
I never really thought about this until recently - and at the wrong time - returning on the M6 in torrential rain!
Always had glove over jacket - no reason except it seemed easier - no more rain runs down jacket into glove and result = very wet hands.
Thanks for heated grip - these kept the cold at bay until 20 miles later when I could stop at the services and tuck the glove under the jacket - continue going - water runs along jacket on to glove and drips off - no longer wet hands!!!
Iv'e always worn a leather jacket and never had a problem with gloves over even in the rain. But I just got a goretex jacket recently and found I had to tuck my gloves under as they were filling up sharpish.
With a Goretex jacket, the water runs down the outside of the inner waterproof membrane but under the outer jacket material. Therefore a seal cannot be made against a glove outside of the sleeve however tight the glove is against the sleeve. This is a big drawback with Goretex lined jackets.
If your jacket is not goretex, but is leather or rubberised (like those silver/blue belstaff ones, or waxed cotton, then if the gloves are a snug fit over the sleeve, a water barrier will hold for quite some time before running into the glove. Therefore under or over can be optional.
The thing I hate most about Goretex jackets, is how the cuff always gets soaked, so when you take your glove off / out from under the sleeve, your wrist and hand inevitably get soaked. This doesn't happen with the over jacket scenario.
Racer Pluvios from Infinity sort out both camps.
An inner neoprene sleeve to go under the jacket and an outer one to go outside with a natty little drain vent.
Coming back through torrential rain last month and it was the only part of my body that was warm and dry.

That's exactly the problem I have with my Goretex jacket which was why I was wondering whether the glove over the cuff would be better. But it appears the most favour the 'jacket over the glove' scenario. My mate suggested that next time I go out in the rain I wear one glove over and one under and see which hand gets wettest! I'm off to Garmisch next week so if the weather continues as it has lately I'll have ample opportunity to try this out
