Thought I would do a quick poll to see who uses what general maintenance / lubricating oil as I have always used WD but a lot of people rave about GT.

GT85 because it smells nicer.
(I use Plus Gas as a penetrating/un-seizing spray).

GT every time. It lubricates better, and doesn't seem to cause rust.
And it smells nicer too!

Steve - one sniff of it and you'll understand, no worries
Seriously, it's really great stuff for spraying on rear shock/throttle lnkages etc etc after the bike's been cleaned. Doesn't seem as 'sticky' as WD either ie it doesn't attract muck in the same way.
Oh...and did I mention it smelt nice too??

AFAIK neither WD-40 nor GT-85 are "oils" as such. (They very likely contain oil as a base, but the more active ingredients are the important bits).
I think 3-in-1 would be a better option for the poll??

WD-40 = water dispersant, formula #40. It was developed to keep the corrosive morning dew off aircraft in storage. Parafin based.
Not a lubricant! Can you imagine how rich that manufacturing company is now? They would spray the planes with this stuff of negligible cost, smells quite like aero fuel as well. Then someone?? puts it in a little tin and sells it as a wonder product at 1000% mark up. Brilliant marketing and instant big wealth.
I use spray silicone grease from the pound shop.
