BMW R1100S vs BMW 1200S

Post by Kieran R1100S »

Hi, I would like your comments on 1100S vs 1200S.
I am a 2x owner of the R1100S. First 04 Mandarin Grey, dumped bad on 5th March 06.
I replaced the bike in May 06 with a 1100S Sport which is 25mm higher in suspention. That was all that was left in Oz. I actually got the last 1100S in Australia.
I bought it over the new released R1200S simply because of the lack of pillion comfort for my wife.
I took the 12s for a test ride and was very inprested with its power and handling but new if I bought it I would not get the wife on the back for any extended trips.
The R1200S has not sold very well here with less than a 100 units being sold Australia wide. Very poor for any bike.
They have stopped exporting to the USA, there biggest market for lack of sales and I have heard they have stopped production. Sales will only be whats left in Dealer stocks!
Some of you guys have modified your R1100S to Lennies specifications and got extra horses out of them. Some of you have traded your 11s for the 12s and are happy with the new bike.
My Question is, will there be a new model up for offer in 2009 hopefully with better ergo's or do you think the S model has seen it's DAYS!

Thanks Kieran

I wont ignore a fellow biker like all the others on here.

Lets think outside the box - have you considered a Zhongyu or an Xingling?

Dont dismiss them just because they are chinese, they really are fantastic bikes.

They've probably even got an owners forum you could go on.

Must . . . not . . . be . . . sarcastic . . .

Keiron, if this is for real, try the search first. In fact have a look at this and you might understand the reason for the earlier comments.

Probably sums up why a lot of people kept the 1100s in preference to the 1200s...................

The rest of the post................... :?

Ah a new word to describe the R1200S:

Inprested (adj.) derived from the descriptives impressed and interested. Specifically used when unsure of the correct word when describing a motorcycle.

"Speach Impeddlement"
(noun) ............being unable to admit that the R1100s is the faster, superior machine...................

(yeah - I know, but I have an 1100s  )

The S' dilemma...

Post by BMW-Fahrer »

Hallo Kieran
What you describe is not only true for australia...
If you ride only solo the R1200S is an improvement over the R1100S due to a better power to weight ratio.
But that's it.The rest is an unfortunate shame due to the marketing gurus with their sport, sport, sport sheme...
Hope for 09/10 they have a R1200S like it should have been from day one;sport,sport,sport,...tour!
The only question remaining if they employ the new DOHC head or stay with the current engine...
And if thhe new "Mk2" is not coming maybe "Lennie" can offer a 1200 engine conversion and 24 litre tank for the R1100S...,because mine already has all the other stuff missing on the R1200S; Ventura-rack,centerstand and fullsize bags...
sport,sport,tour...!

You really need only two tools: WD-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the tape.
