Anyone any tips - managed to strip the LHS front engine mount on the R6 reinstalling the crash bung.
Seems a straightforward operation to repair - apart from the drilling bit...
Advice appreciated.
Ade.
PS would post more but site runs so slow through my crap connection...

Never used one Ade - I'm not even sure where you get them! I've heard other people that have used them and they seem pretty straight forward - I always get scared when I have to get my drill out though

Ade, Helicoils are quite easy to use, just drill out oversize hole and tap to fit helicoil which reduces the thread size back to original. Alternatively if you can get away with it drill out and tap oversize and fit larger dia bolt.
What is actually stripped? - The internal thread or the thread on the bolt, you may even get away with running a tap down the hole to clean up the original thread and fit a new bolt. Can you get to the back of the hole? If so can you not drill out the thread push the bolt straight thro' and fit a nut on the back?
Just a few ideas, but If you need a Helicoil try Boxerdog (Bob). You'll find one of his posts on here somewhere to get his e mail or pm. You could try ringing him on 01753 215097 - he works for an engineering suppliers he may be able to help
Dave.

lets see.... MoD Maintenance manual 2041BG/96/B20 Wire Thread Inserts
Typicaly made from spring steel or stainless steel wire of diamond cross section, two types are available; Free running and screwlock. Free running are made of nickel chrome stainless steel to resist corrosion, scaling and heat effects and are self anchoring. Screwlock have a self-lock device in the shape of a intermediate coil being polygonal, so that the bolt threaded in suffers the pressure on it and thereby prevents loosening. Typically RED to distinguish from all other inserts.
Only Cadmium plated or close limit, unplated, rolled thread screw oil lubricated, should be used with screwlock inserts.
Inserts for normal screw threads are supplied in lengths of 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 and 3 times the nominal diameter of the thread.
Drilling and tapping follow standard workshop practices.
Proceedure:
i) Drill holes within tolerance given in relevant table (inside kit tub if you buy a kit) according to the size and class of fit of the insert to be used.
ii) Select the Heli-coil special taps and form the internal thread by workshop thread-tapping principles.
iii) Select the appropriate insertion tool and place helicoil on item such that the tang (bent-in peg at end of coil) is at the end where insertion will take place, amd located into the slot in the tool.
iv) Place tool and heli-coil square to the repair area and locate the first thread gently into the first thread within the repair and slowly screw the heli-coil into the repair. NO FORWARD PRESSURE whatsoever should be used as this will damage the insert.
v) The insert must be 1/4 to 1/2 pitch below the surface of the work when fitted.
vi) After installation, the tang of the insert should be removed only if necessary for screw clearnace . In such cases, removal of the tang for through holes is accomplished using the heli-coil tang break off tool. As such; Place the tang breaking tool into the heli-coil and abutted against the tang, then with a firm action push the tool in parallel to break the tang. DO NOT use sideways action i.e. pliers, as this may unseat the heli-coil within it's housing.

Two options,
1, Bring bike to my house tomorow (Monday) and I will Helecoil the offending thread.
2, Bring youself minus bike and I will lend you the kit free and gratis and give you a practical demonstration on how to do the job.
It has to be Monday as I go off to sunny Cyprus on Tuesday very early for two weeks.

Cheers Boxadog - most generous offer.
where you based?
R6 is track only bike and lives at brother's - logistics of trailers etc. mean that I may be looking to just to borrow the kit.
Will call you in the morning and pop over (subject to weather & distance)
Thanks again guys.
