Whilst sitting in traffic last year in the middle of paris, my Boxercup become very hot and made lots of strange nioses.
At the same time the other two "boxer" bikes was doing the same, However the single Jap bike amoungst us was copping very well with its fan going.
So my question is... why have bmw not fitted a small fan to my oil rad? and is there any reason why i cant fit one my self?

You boxer sounds noisy and hot because there is no water jacket to insulate you from the noise. The pots stick out sideways rather than being under a fuel tank and plastic to further insulate.
Ours both do it here in the south of France. The way that I make sure that the bikes are not doing themselves any damage is to use fully synthetic oil, but mentioning oil is a can of worms.
The bike was designed to run and idle in a wide range of temperatures so I don't worry about it now.

Mine did the same in Zaragosa Spain last yr the ambient air temp was 40 deg C - I did get a bit worried about the strange noises coming from the machine particularly when in slow / non moving traffic.
No damage done and as others have said - it is designed to operate in all temps and no damage done.

Hey, If you are passing again, let me know. We have plenty of tea, coffee or wine here and have a bit of room for tents if needed.
We used to ride in shirtsleeves, just like the French bike cops, but have just bought a summer jacket each. They are similar to BMWs airflows in that they let the wind through but are fully armoured. They look quite smart and only cost 90 euro (£60) each. Well worth that money even if they only last a couple of years.
