Possible Repeat Question - 24,000 Mile Service Cost?

........anyway having done a search I couldn't find a recent answer!
Would be interested to hear what people think I should be paying for a 24,000 mile service. Rang around a few dealers today and getting wildly varying quotes, and as for the grumpy old git at B*M in Stroud don't ask!
Has anyone ever discovered a good independent dealer in the South-West? Unlike you London lot they seem a bit thin on the ground down this part of the world.

Bob, I was told about £350+vat at Ocean in Plymouth. I raised the question on here and was told that was about right but was easy enough to do yourself if access to a twinmax was available. the downside is I sill have not got round to doing it yet.

Do it yourself. With a small part of what you save on labour costs you can buy a Twinmax to balance the TB's. And you'll take much more care over valve clearances and TB balancing than any dealer would, resulting in the bike running better than ever. It may take you a while the first time but it's a rewarding way to get to know your bike and there's no part of the service that's difficult to do if you have a decent, normal toolkit.
You can buy a service kit (filters, plugs, drain plug washers etc) from Motorworks.

And they'll even modify a service kit to include or exclude certain items, so if you already have a K&N you don't need the air filter - out it comes; want different plug, there you go. The price changes according to what you eventually get but should still be cheaper than buying all the bits separately.

Does the 24k include the new fuel filter/pump, or is that the 30k service. From memory that is a £120 part and bumped my last BMW service up to around £500
Since then I have muddled through on a combination of me doing easy stuff and SED doing the fiddly bits. I think the parts for the 36k service came to nearly 100 quid.

Changing the fuel pump isn't part of ANY service. You'd change it only if it was faulty and if a dealer tells you otherwise they're lying! Changing the fuel filter is, I think, recommended every 24k miles but the filter is only a few quid. There's a knack to changing it, though - it's a bit awkward.

probably was just the fuel filter then - but it did cost a fair bit from SL BMW.. - too many vehicles difficult to keep track

Yeah, it could be fiddly - £5 part, £115 labour
I did my 24K not long back and all the parts for that (plugs, oils, fuel & oil filter, alt belt, couple of hose clips, gaskets) came to around £90.

OK more for my own benefit than anything else, dug out receipt from 24k service in October 2004...
Fuel filter cost £11.32, labour to fit it £64.12
total service cost £542.74 inc. new front pads and fluid and VAT

.
Looking at the receipt I think they snuck in a 12 month service as well...
Interesting to note the rear pads were noted as 1/2 worn - they are still in now 2 1/2 years and 12k later!!
the 30k service was a mere £190.
Not anymore..

I think Motorworks charge half that amount for the filter. And I reckon I can get the tank off, change the filter, and get the tank and panels back on in less than an hour - is that worth £64?

Rather than haveing to do things all in one go,just split e'm up,i do the tranny oil every year,engine oil every 3000,tappets when they sound like they need e'm,although i have to say in todays day and age of overheads etc,i didn't think 60 odd pounds to to do the filter was all that bad,i've done my own,but for those not up to it i'd say it was good money,although looking at some of Ade's bills gulp!!!.
