R1100S 1999 V 1050 Triumph Sprint 2006

Post by oyster »

I have developed my bike to provide the best possible touring ride, best economy, all the sensible bits and BMW luggage. It does the job brilliantly. Last month I was in the saddle for 12 hours; usually only do about two, once a week. No problem.
Now my pal has gone and bought a Triumph Sprint, a better tourer than the bike he had.
I will need other's opinions of the merits of this newbie so that I can prepare myself against the obvious bar-room battle that is about to begin.
Your comments gentlemen please. Which is the better tourer, and why?

Hi Oyster,

My riding buddy Liam has a Sprint ST 1050 that he thinks is great, until he took a spin on a R12RT that is. Now he has found true love!
Any how,the brakes on the Sprint don't exactly inspire confidence and the depreciation is way to scary,he's lost £3000 in 7.5 months...ouch!
Oh and did i mention the oil leak....?
So the BM wins by default in my book...BMW 1 Triumph 0

Andy :D

I feel that I am in a good position to answer this one. I had my 11S for two years and it never failed me and at the time I was commuting on it I was doing 102 miles a day in all weathers and it held up well. At the start of this year I got an '07 Sprint ST. I did consider another 'S' but I wanted to get a newer one having ridden PB's 12S last year in Yorkshire. What a lovely bike and such a move forward from the 11S. I could not afford a new one at the time and also the new bike had to have luggage so I went for a new Sprint ST. No complaints with it at all and the mileage it cracking on and its used in all weathers also. Would I have another BMW? Yes. Would I have another 'S'? Yes I would but it would have to be a 12S. No disrespect to the 11S but the 12S is such a move forward that I could not go back to the 11. As it stands at the moment though the Sprint ST is staying. Unless I win the lottery!!!
