FACE OFF

In preparation for my iminent return to "Blighty" I have purchased (on flea bay) a second hand MPH clock. Rather than fit the whole speedo I am considering just exchanging the face so that I retain the bikes original mileage (actually it will be kilometerage). Can anybody offer advice on removing and refitting the speedo needle which I wll need to do to change the face ? and how risky an operation is it? 
Alternatively does anybody know how to change the mileage reading?
