Yet another bl***y Newbie

Post by Capt Jack Sparrow »

Hello boys and girls.

Just wanted to say hello.

I've just bought an 03 BCR:

I've only recently got the 'BMW thing" having tried a mate's new GSA1200 on holiday last year.I've been kicking around the UKGSER forum and someone mentioned this place,so thought I would have a look.

I got my own GSA 12 in September and just love the bike and the engine.

Recently the only local Boxercup Rep came up for sale.

It only has 3300 miles on the clock and comes with Laser cans/chip and BMW 25 litre hard luggage, plus wunderlich low seat (which I am selling).

So anyway,I made the guy an offer and it's mine, and it's brilliant.

I've done the GSXR thing etc and am getting too old to be bent over the latest hot rocket (though I am keeping my Italian stallion). It's good to have a 'sports' bike that isn't designed for midgets.

So,that's it really.

But I do have a couple of questions.

The previous owner is moving house and has temporarily misplaced the Owners/service Manual.

I am a considerably different build to him,being 6'1" and 14 1/2 stone.

The bike is fitted with Dunlop 208s.

I've set the pressures at 35/40.Is that about right ?

Secondly, with regard to suspension,I've wound the front right in and backed it off about 10 clicks, though it doesn't actually seem to have any defined 'clicks',if that makes sense.

The rear preload,I've wound it fully high and backed it off 12.

Are these settings about right,as I don't know what the standard settings were to begin with ?

Thanks

Thanks for the link.

The previous owner knows he has the manual somewhere-it's just a case of finding it when he clears all the boxes !

I know this is too obvious but has he stored it where it should be I.E. with the puncture repair kit under the seat in the compartment in front of the tool box! Good luck.

No,the previous owner says he has it somewhere.

So nobody with any advice as to whether my pressures/suspension setting are about right ?

This forum doesn't seem very interactive !

Jack....Jack.....(said in a Captain Barbossa sort of voice) you have to learn how to use the forum properly. If you want to ask a technical question you have to ask it the Boxertech forum. Alternatively, and preferably for the rest of us who have gone through the tyre presures and suspension settings a million times, use the 'Search' function at the top of the page. type in the subject matter, define which forum you want to search and hey presto, loads of informative stuff appears.

Honestly, there isn't much that hasn't been discussed before.
