Bar rising options

Hello

What are my options and what are the costs involved in rising the bars on my 02 BCR?

Do I need to think about longer brake and clutch lines as well as the raising kit?

Ta, Lee.

Lee,.. try putting the bars above the yoke first,.. you should 'just' get away without changing the brake hose for this.
Also,.. look at John's posts (silver SS),.. he's got a natty set of higher bars on his very clean SS.
Oh,.. If i do get down to Artillary Lane to see you this week,.. I'll actualy be on Marks K75,.. my S has died again

El Bandito ... are you saying I can drop the top yoke down the tubes and move the bars above the yoke? Not in front of the bike so I can't see the implications. Or am I missing the point?

Has anyone else played around with this?

Those bar-raisers look lovely by the way RoLoo ... ta, Lee.

Yes Lee, .. drop the tubes down,.. remove the bars, pull the tubes back above the yoke and put the bars on the top. You won't have the 'securing screw',.. but the bars will be above the top yoke. I think a few here have done it.

Does this mean you have about 1.5 inches less stanchion in the bottom bits.... because I cannot see how the tope yoke can go down any further?? or am I being stupid.

Thanks JoeC..... very useful response that!!

If anyone out there can help with this, I'd rather understand the problem before attempting the actual move

All the fork tubes do on a telever bike is keep the front wheel in a straight line it does not alter the rake or steering angle.

I had the high bar option on my S which uses exaxtly the same fork staunchions.

You could probably get a set of genuine BMW high bars from a breaker.

Ha ha ... was a little harsh their Joe

I see what Geoff is on about ... the stanctions (top bits) once released are free to drop down through the yoke and the bars ... once free you can pull the stanctions back up through the yoke and above enough to mount the bars. Giving an extra inch or so rise.

As you say Stuart this must reduce the amount of stanction in the fork bottom by the same amount.

Help?

Ta, Lee.

Thanks chaps... this has made it clear. I new that the stanchions do not work like conventional forks... but thought that the whole bike would be that much lower.

Any way thanks for your help.

Regards

Stuart

Apologies but I had to get in with my comment before somebody else did. No harm meant.

Forget to ask ...

If you have done this can you tell me if any cables or brake lines need extending - I intend to upgrade the brake lines at some point so can always order an inch extra or whatever if required.

But I'd like to raise the bars in the mean time.

Thanks again, Lee.

Lee,
Might I just suggest that before you ask you use the search button at the top. Bar risers (and lots of other topics) have been covered many times on this forum. That's why the first entry on Boxertech is a 'sticky' from Gromit about using the search button!

In fact the previous thread to yours on this subject was only started in December!

I'm not having a go at you only, cos its a general comment and enthusuiasm is always welcome.
There's a lot of knowledge amongst the members of this forum but people are not going to be inclined to respond if you haven't done your homework.
