Just heard on the news tonight that part of the cargo floating away from the ship grounded off Devon is a few containers of BMW motorbikes!

Firstly, anyone got one on order that may just be a little, er, delayed?

Secondly, anyone near Devon care to investigate the likelihood of cheap (ok, free) R12 S and GSs lying about the beach just waiting to be salvaged?

There's a trend here................

In 2002, The car-carrier Tricolor foundered in the English Channel and it was carrying BMW cars.

Now this latest one coughs up its load of ...... BMW bikes.

Is it some sort of perverse retribution for the U-boats' reign of terror ?

I think BMW could learn something from Sir Douglas Bader............. ship their bikes over in pieces

Is this even remotely legal? Or is it, as long as you fill in the required forms so you can probably get taxed the shit out of yourself?

I believe that anything salvaged below the high tide mark counts as that salvage. You have to fill in forms to keep it legal and offer the original owner the salvage back at the price that it is worth. It does not matter if the item is in the water or on land, if the owner is not there to claim the salvage himself then it is for anyone to salvage.
The classic happened about 15 to 20 years ago when a Navy Harrier pilot was short on fuel and landed on a Spanish cargo ship as he could not make it back to his carrier. The crew salvaged the Harrier as soon as the pilot had left the cockpit. The 18 million pound aircraft was sold back to the Navy with the crew being paid out the money. They were made for life.
You may notice that the police could not stop people taking stuff from hte beach so they handed out notices telling people that to be legal they were to notify the receiver of wrecks within 28 days.

Funny i thought the same thing,as ST sales are so bad,maybe a new sales techinque from BM!!!,throw e'm on the beach, neither ST or the K police bike did anything for me but the git pushing that grey 800 up the beach!!! what a result.
