Touring Panniers

Is it just me being dumb or is the actual capacity of the panniers pretty small.
I can't even get one helmet in
They look a good 45L from the outside but inside the space sems really awkward. Used to get two lids and a marathon bar in my old Givi box, it was the size of Wales mind.
On another note is there a helmet lock on the bike anywhere?

have you looked at the BMW Touring lids?? they're an extra 6l iirc. (F.Ugly though)

Take a pic of them and post it on here............ it may be that you have ones for a model that has an upswept exhaust?? (R1150R)

Check both panniers - mine are a set for a different bike and I can get my wife's lid in one side but not the other..
My old Roof Daytona wouldn't fit in either side.

If you take the seat off there are two helmet hangars near the front under the rider's section - bent bits of 2mm-ish rod. Loop your helmet straps (like the d-rings) over these and replace the seat. That's supposedly secure. Might stop them being stolen but won't stop some toe-rag just having at the helmet strap for the fun and leaving you stranded, since you can't now ride off unless you fancy an unfastened helmet?

We sometimes carry a small bicycle cable lock to lock the full face lids onto the bike when we park up somewhere.
I used to lock them to the front wheel and leave them resting on the ground. Then one day as I rode away I smelt a funny smell and realised that a dog had passed by and mistaken the bike for a lampost!
Now I make sure they're off the ground.
