winter storage blah blah blah yawn

Post by johnl »

Hi, the bikes tucked away for winter. The battery is still connected and I know that if I leave it alone it will be flat upon my return?. If i simply disconnect the battery for a couple of months will this cause any problems? will the bikes computer 'forget' something?. will the battery discharge itself after a while anyway even if disconnected?.

thanks chaps

The battery will only discharge faster if you have an alarm fitted or if you have a short circuit in your wiring.
Other wise it'll just discharge at the same rate as it would disconnected from the bike.
Buy yourself a Optimate or similar, leave one end connected to the bike and simply plug in to maintain a constant trickle charge.

What Bailey said re Optimates - I always plug my bike in whenever I get home (with the BM power socket it's as easy as inserting the key) as it's often a week or 2 between bouts of riding it during the Winter.

Got one on the MZ too. A very recommendable product - plug it in and forget about it.
