Conversion from ABS to Non-ABS

Post by minivin »

Feck it, the ABS on the EVO II is pretty much a workshop job to bleed unless you fancy sitting there removing all of the bodywork and fuel tank to re-fill the ABS module that I have just run dry :?

Looking in the Haynes manual, the the Speedo heads on ABS and non-ABS have the same wiring colouring, which aint too much of a surprise if it's following standard colour coding practice, but it got me thinking.

Does the ABS and non-ABS models share the same speedo head???

The ABS rear sensor is definately not the same as a speedo sensor on the non-ABS models, and since the EVO-II processes the ABS sensor signal to determine speed, this is why the ABS models don't have a speedo sensor.

So if I was to get a non-ABS rear diff and fit it, strip out the EVO II model and re-do the pipe work, would the speed work???

as I'm going to have to rebuild the nearside calliper in the near future it seems that to save the hassle of getting CW's to bleed the brake's again in the future that maybe it's time to take the plunge

I'd say, all you need to do is run new plumbing directly to the calipers and you are set. No need to remove anything. You could remove the ABS pump, but it's not even needed.

yeah, I was thinking just after I posted whether the ABS module could be left in to do the speedo computations :? one thing that got me wondering was that since it read the brake switch signals whether it would throw a hooley and go on a strop..... bulbs out naturally so you wouldn't have to put up with them flashing away all the time ;)

Too bad you don't have EVO3 powerbrakes. I would have swapped you my wiringloom and computer of my non-ABS bike with your ABS setup if you had.
