y piece

Hi, I've read lots of previous posts on fitting a ypiece replacement for the catalytic converter and am 99% sure i'm going to get a remus y piece from motorworks. Just before i do.....are there anydownsides to this I should be aware of? I understand i don't have to alter any mapping and that it should reduce vibrations, sound a bit more throaty and and help pick up on mid range. I read on one posting though that the cat actually creates a certain ammount of back pressure that is required for maximum power. Is that all tosh? does fuel economy drop much?

I will be keeping the standard cans on my 1100ss. The rest of the bike is standard although i have considered the K&N option but fear this will require some form of remapping. again, any thoughts?

Just do it mate, there isn't any downsides. :D

It'll sound better even with standard cans. There isn't any need to modify the fuelling on the bike, providing you don't change end cans, or increase inflow. When I changed mine I did notice the power was spread differently. However it was keener to rev.

Backfires but that adds to the comic value of a sporty Bemmer. :shock:

I fitted a remus y piece from motorworks last weekend. Its a very straightforward job make sure you have a 22mm spanner for the 02 sensor, and read the instructions posted on the site.

I've kept the standard cans the exhaust note is a bit deeper sounds nicer. Mid range seems stronger and the bike seems to run a bit smoother. Fuel consumption seems about he same.
