OT - iPOD queries...

Not very boxer related I know - any of you techies help me out here..

Having finally succumbed to MP3dom, acquired 80GB iPod this weekend thinking I can back up photos etc. and copy CD collection at my leisure..

Was wondering - the wonderful iTunes software:

1. Appears to only let you sync your collection - does this mean I have to fill my laptop with 60GB music to have 60GB of music on my iPod or can I delete MP3s off the laptop once they are transferred to the iPod (which is what I'd like to do) without them being removed from the iPod next time its hooked up?

2. Why won't iTunes see my photos - its parked on the desktop rather than in my pictures (drive has 2 partitions, started to fill up C drive so I shifted all my files and folders from my Documents on drive C to folders on drive D - photos are in drive D)...

I'm reasonably PC literate, but can't seem to get my head around this. The iTunes help seems to direct you towards buying stuff rather than explaining how to use it.. Would tinker more if the bleeding thing wasn't busy copying and converting my photos from itsself (copied across using windows as the iTunes refused to see it!) to itsself....

Advice most appreciated.

Ade.

Hi ade
You can uncheck the auto sync mode and manually transfer files. You can then delete unwanted files off your PC.
Sorry cant help you with the rest.

I wouldnt delete from your computer before making another set of backups on DVD/CD or another hard drive. iPods are nice things (though I use an Archos MP3 player) but like all small devices are prone to premature death, and are quite likely to become lost/stolen. A device is replaceable, but whats on it may not be.

To cover my back, I have 5 backups.
1/ An old laptop just for music playback
2/ My Archos GMini XS202, mp3 player (not everything on this)
3/ A backup 125GB hard drive
4/ Everything backed up to DVD-R and CD-R

ta for the replies

gave up on the laptop as I've reconfigured the setup in windows and iTunes didn't want to know - stuck it on the desk top - much bigger hd and dvd writer. Will bup mp3s once I have put in all my cds - which apparently won't take too long..

will leave the sync mode in place for now as it seems fairly idiot proof and will also back up our photos off the main pc.

Looking forward to dancing in silhouette.
