Introduction and Battery Question

Hi Guys,
Thought I'd introduce myself - just bought a 2000 R1100S, got rid of my TL1000S for something slightly more civilised and comfortable for her on the back. Really enjoying it, certainly isn't short of character
My battery light has started coming on when I turn on the ignition, and doesn't go out until after I've started the engine, and given the throttle a blip. I plugged the Optimate in last night, and it reckonned that the battery was good, but the light's still coming on
I'll buy a new multi-meter at lunch, and test the voltage when it's running and not, but what're the initial impressions?
I'm assuming that it's still on the original battery, would it be time for an Odyssey? Do you need different cable ends for these, or is just a straight swap?
I don't have ABS or heated grips, but think that I might like to upgrade to the grips at some point (is this easy/straightforward?) so what size should I go for/what will fit?
Many thanks in advance.
Cheers, Rich
