Introduction and Battery Question

Post by turboferret »

Hi Guys,

Thought I'd introduce myself - just bought a 2000 R1100S, got rid of my TL1000S for something slightly more civilised and comfortable for her on the back. Really enjoying it, certainly isn't short of character

My battery light has started coming on when I turn on the ignition, and doesn't go out until after I've started the engine, and given the throttle a blip. I plugged the Optimate in last night, and it reckonned that the battery was good, but the light's still coming on :(

I'll buy a new multi-meter at lunch, and test the voltage when it's running and not, but what're the initial impressions?

I'm assuming that it's still on the original battery, would it be time for an Odyssey? Do you need different cable ends for these, or is just a straight swap?

I don't have ABS or heated grips, but think that I might like to upgrade to the grips at some point (is this easy/straightforward?) so what size should I go for/what will fit?

Many thanks in advance.

Cheers, Rich

Dunno if it's meant to do it but that's what mine does and has done since I bought it in Feb. The previous S did the same thing too

The battery light is in fact a charge light. It will come on with ignition (as there is no charge) and will go out when the engine is running. Most S's need a blip of the throttle to kick the alnernator in.

Marvelous, thanks for that, won't order a new battery then!

I hadn't noticed it coming on before, hence my concern.
