Ok, I can hear the groans & see the raised eyebrows, but I have done about 1000 mile since I got the bike in April and throught I had better check the oil level.
Having balanced the bike, the oil window is uniform i.e. brown - good news I hope as it might be the oil. Start the engine and the window clears and the oil level can be seen about one third from the bottom.
Does this mean it has been over filled? If so what happens as it is a no no in the handbook?
Cheers
Dave
Numpty Question - Oil check

Like Chris said (and this is the very important bit) get the engine good and hot - a quick 2 mile spin isn't really enough - then park the bike up. Go and make yourself a cuppa, then having drunk said beverage, return to bike and check the oil level. Having owned God-knows-how-many oilhead Boxers it seems to be just about the only sure-fire way of getting an accurate oil level reading.
Oilheads also don't like being over-filled.
