Guzzi to build MGS

Post by bmwonder »

In last weeks MCN Guzzi announced that they are going to release a road going MGS. Only down side is that it might have a full fairing. Why???? It looks fantastic as it is. Anyway we will see when it arrives.

I was window shopping for second bike at the weekend. The Blade is excellent but I seem to be doing 60mph everywhere around London. I was looking at a CBF500 complete with top box and crash bars (8k miles £2400). Perfecrt commuter tool? Any comments?

Yes, but I want something that I won't ride fully tilt everywhere. Also, the S is a thirsty old girl. She likes a drop of oil and petrol, and tyres aren't cheap either. I want something that's slow as an old dog and cheap to run. Big scooters are out because they are thirsty and expensive to service. Small ones are out becuse I don't want to look like a pizz boy. I think that an old fazer/bandit/cb500 might do the trick? If anyones got an old R850R that would be good. I had one as a loaner one - I bloody loved it! Magic round town, much better than the 1100/1150.

easy, that'll be an old vespa then...

CB500 is probably a good buy as its a Honda... I had a BMW 650CS which was great around town - they're more expensive to run I suppose...

I had an R850R as a loaner once, was pretty good around town apart from the servo brakes which would have been scary on a greasy winter night..

How about a Royal Enfield or even Kawasaki W650 for summat a bit different.

Royal Enfield!!! I said that I wanted to go more slowly but now your taking the piss. I do need to get there eventually. Which foot would I have to change gear with?

I had a look at second hand 850Rs. There are none privately and the dealer ones are the same price as a new Fazer1000.

I've had a cb500 (new) since 2000. It has over 50k miles (despite the fact that i haven't used it much since I got the s. All i've put in it since then is oil/filters and occasional plugs + a clutch cable. Ideal commuter very economical and surprisingly capable on long haul. A little bit flighty compared to the s but it brings a smile to my face everytime I use it (and even more at the petrol pumps). You might not find it that slow though...
As for the enfield , interesting as a project but for regular commuting think money pit to make it reliable/ reasonably responsive and think money pit again when you decide you need a disc brake conversion.
Was interested in the w650 but just sitting on one didn't feel right(although i said that about the s).
