I've never really been convinced by the belly pan, in fact it was the bare bike with a sliver of fairing at the top that initially caught my eye on the S. I just really liked the look. However as the manky git that I bought my bike from had never even heard of a sponge let alone used one I put the belly pan on to cover up the horrible mess that is the bottom half of my engine.
I want to take it off now, but to do so I WILL have to paint the engine, so ......
Has anyone done this and if so what did you use ? and how resiliant has it been ? I'm thinking of an epoxy type coating or possibly a more traditional bog standard high temp paint job.

Hammerite smooth in my favourite shade of black.Has stood up reasonably well being as i didnt really do any prep work except a rub over with a wire brush.

Gus are you winding me up ? You honestly used hammerite smooth on your engine ? Bloody hell, never thought of that TBH, how is it standing up so far ?
How longs it been on and is the heat not causing any probs ?

No can do on the pics mate,my bike isnt here at the moment.I painted the the bottom part(sump).It looked OK being as i used a brush.100% better than the flaky patchy orignal paint which was falling off in droves.No problems with heat and has been on for 3 years and was ridden all year round.Next time i will prep better and use a spraygun to apply.I also sprayed my rear drive ,paralever forks,brace,valve covers and lower legs with plasticote satin paint.This has held up very well.

You weren't tempted by the aesthetic properties of wood print sticky backed plastic then?

I was,but they didnt do it in norwegian spruce effect.Also the plastic tree population is dwindling throughout europe.You,ve got to do your bit for the enviroment aint ya.
