Bikes to cover 'all bases'

While we're talking about folk who can afford 150k to splash out on Bugattis, how about of imaginery self-pampering...

How many bikes would it need to cover all aspects of our needs? Chatting to Rods the other day, we reckoned around 5. So, in that case what would those be? Only rules are that these bikes have to have been in production in the last 5 years.

I'll start the ball rolling...

Long-distance 2-up: R1200RT
General *rsing around on: KTM SuperDuke 990
Local blatting around and making lots of noise: Harley-Davidson FXDXI (in black of course) ;)
Trackdays: Triumph 675 Daytona
1-up trips (ie FLASH weekends): BMW R1200S - well, it'd be churlish not to eh?? :D

for me it's a 1150gs, blackbird, r6, triumph thunderbird, and a ducati 998

:shock:

but between my bird and my s, i've got most of the bases covered... just looking for a sunny days only triumph now me thinks

Hmmm, decisions, decisions... Off the top of my head:

GSX-R 1000 (Ultimate IL4 - probably better off with a 600 or 750 but what the hell.)

Aprillia Mille RR (Ultimate twin)

KTM 990 Super Duke (Nutter bastard)

XT-660 R (Muddy fun)

R 12 GS (Sensible bike with hard luggage)

That should cover all bases except a cruiser/custom - just couldn't bring myself to do it. Now if we could have 6 bikes I might just tag a Hog on the end :D

Adam - must admit, the Gixxer thou does appeal greatly. And why have the smaller engined versions when the full-fat one's just a few pence more... :)

And how could you not have something as gorgeous in your list??

For me:

BMW GS1200 Adv - Go anywhere with luggage
Daytona 675 - Lightweight sports
Fireblade - Full-on sports (can't help it - I just like them)
MV Agusta F4 - Just to stroke - absolute sex on two wheels

R1100s BoxerCup - My current bike that suits me for most touring needs.

Now - where's that damn ISA?

I'd probably go for an ST1300 for touring, a Buell Firebolt for fun, a Vigor 650 for the slippy stuff and my R1100s for everything in between.

Well, here's my list.

Long-distance 2-up: R1200RT
General *rsing around on: Honda RC45
Local blatting around and making lots of noise: Any classic single, and recovery truck
Trackdays: modern day single, Ducati Super mono
1-up trips (ie FLASH weekends): BMW K1200R - well, that is what I will be using, silly to say anything else I don't own.

For me the bike to cover all bases is the R1100S;trackdays,weekend fun,touring,commuting it got all bases covered.
Only if you scrap trackdays (from a certain click on the frontend is a little light and tires not really suitable) and you like to go a little Charlie Boormann type touing I would say the R1200GS or better the new adventure version with the big petrol tank...
Ad of course a little dirt bike like a XR400 to explore and hone some off road skills.
11/2 bikes is enough...;-)

Fow work/commute- Keep the S
For track days - I'd get my Yam TRX 850 back and do it up
For posing - It would have to be a mint 916
For mucking about - CCM supermotard with loud exhaust
Going abroad - Big GS Adventurer with those enormous panniers

Common theme - Anything with more than two cylinders is a waste of time
