Calling electrical gizmologists

Post by Jason M »

$%^$%^$%23$"£$ " ing "£$"£$" unction box

OK - so what is the trick? The wires into the little harnesses under where the relays plug in - I need to replace a couple of the contacts with my own wires - so I go to pull the connectors from out under the relay connectors but they appear to be impossible to remove - resulting in a stripped wire this time    The wires seem to be a 'once only' fit - you push them in and they will NEVER come out. I got a spare from my box of bits and cut one open - it appears each contact sites inside a small metal collar to obviously stop the contact coming out when you plug the relay into it. Question is - is is possible to get these little feckers out EVER. I'm thinking NOT by the looks of it - unless there is a trick by pushing part of it with an electrical screwdriver or summit. Otherwise I'm going to just move the relay in the box and wire it freestyle:x

PLEASE HELP

Jason,

There will be a little tool of some sort that you push into the rear of the block and this will depress the tab/latch thingy. Most connectors are like this and nearly every one is different. I have a few spacialist tools for this sort of thing, else I make do with a tiny tool makers screwdriver.

OK Rob - I'll bring the spare into the house (in the warm!) and see if I can release them with a small electrical screwdriver or something. The connectors are not like anything else I've seen for sale either - but I'm sure I can something as long as I can get the little gits out

Thanks matey

This is not electrical: it's obviously a mechanical problem. As you know these blacksmiths are even more twisted then us softwareboys

You're not wrong

I've admitted defeat anyway - I'm going to run some wires to a repositioned relay. The 'proper' contacts sit inside a little metal 'cage' thing that has prongs that come out to stop it coming out underneath - as Rob says, there are 2 access holes down the side of each one to bend back the prongs and allow them to be pulled out underneath but.... sticking a regular tool down them just bends the little 'cage' even more and the little feckers just will not come out for me. They are a work of twisted German genius :D - if I get anoyed I'll only brake the lot so I've decided to go to plan B  All I want is a working HORN (... leave it :!: )

Shit!
This doesnt bode very well with the little(ha ha ha)wiring job i,ve got to do.Rewiring the new switchgear onto the old wiring!I think i,ll cut trough the lot and start soldering and heat shrinking.Being a spark this should be easy, but i doubt it will anything but!

The spade end actually comes out by inserting a small tool ( ) from the female side of the connector you need to release this with a bit of steel/shim about 2mm wide by 0.5mm
