Had a test ride on a GSXR1000 today.
It's a compact machine with safe handling, and adequate power for those sunday morning rides to the cafe.
Holy pooh - what a wheeze, even with todays weather. ........ dead comfy, and has that 'va va voom' spirit. I nipped briefly to 140 but without getting anywhere near the 13,500

redline.
It can now only be a matter of time....
And on the way home I got 150 out of the S today, a new record, albeit down a small hill.

B*ll*x to being sensible, it's got to be done. After all I had one before and didn't kill myself or get arrested. Not quite anyway.
But I'm just after a sweet-handling light bike with a grunty motor. It fits the bill perfectly.
I'm open to other suggestions.

I read here recently that the opinion is, the new Gixxer 1000 is as fast as the old Busa. So go and try a bit harder, should see 200 mph. Only allowed on an airfield though. That's where I proved my S at 150.

Enjoy the speed, and the chain adjusting.

I got a bit worried about 'farting around with chains' when I had my TT600 - thing is I had to adjust it only 3 times in 12000 miles (ie every time I had a new rear tyre and removed the wheel). Chains have definitely come a long way in the last few years, to the point that the 'maintenance-free' bit of a shaft isn't the advantage it once was. In fact now, having a chain wouldn't be something to put me off having a bike driven by such a device.
I hate to say it, but the worry over paralever bearing/tranny failure on the new Boxers would be enough to put me off having them though...more's the pity.
Archie... gissa go btw

Unfortunately not good vfm in Ireland, emailed the appointed distributor and got a reply €12.5k to €14.5 euro

although thet sent me a brochure for an SF (naked). Need to head to euroland (Germany maybe)

I'd say go for the Gixxer. If it's anything like my Blade then it won't cost any more to run than the S, probably less. Plus you get better braking, better handling, cheaper servicing, better performance etc.
As for chains, the Blade is on it's second chain and sprocket set with 50k on the clock. There is loads of life in yet too. By comparison the S had a new shaft/ UJ assembly at 25k and a bever box/paralever rebuild at 60K, which was not cheap.

I say go with what ever you want and sod the rest!
If i had the choice i would own a couple of bikes. One being a turbo hayabusa street fighter thats for sure.Yeah i dont need it,yeah it has too much power. But it sure would be buzz to ride.I had a go on most of the latest superbikes and they are brilliant machines. However i love the boxer engine and the S just does it for me.
Malc. You seem to have just struck unlucky or had crap servicing done.Lots of people have done big mileages and had no problems, others have had nightmares concerning shafts.Same can be said about chain drives. Some last for ages, whilst others can be shagged after a few thousand miles.I would say its more down to ownership/maintenance than design.Having shaft drive didnt or wouldnt sway my bike options. Is servicing that much different cost wise between a BM and the other big motorcycle franchises?I like the fact that its one of the easier bikes to service yourself at home.

THE NEW GIXXER HANDLES BETTER THAN THE S????
I thought the feature of the S was it's superior handling?
