One of the guys who has a garage just a few up from mine has just got himself a new Gixxer 1000 so he let me have a quick spin on it. My word, it certainly nips along a bit

Surprisingly comfy too.
He previously had a 'Busa - did 43000 miles on it from new - reckons the GSXR is quicker (gulp!) and just as if not more comfy. He commutes up to us in London from Cornwall every week.
One seriously impressive motorcyle.

I'd heard they weren't
that fast myself

Don't trust myself to even try one to be honest as I expect I'd flip the sodding thing . . . .
anyway they'll never catch on these sports bike things, and where's he going to mount panniers on one of them....
Gixer thou....pah.

BMW used to be the benchmark of long life engines, reality is these days the precision engineering in Motorcycles comes from Japan. Hence long life, reliability and affordable prices. You could pick up a 1-2 year old gxer thou. for 5 large. What did I say about BMW moving away from real world pricing..........
You know you want one Rich.!!

That's the scary thing - not a lot of wedge for one serious amount of horsepower. Trouble is, I just don't have the willpower to own one of these things - my license would last even less time than it would with a K12R/S
Thing which impressed me most was how comfy the bike felt - the riding position is surprisingly un-racerish. Certainly a beautiful looking bike - even that odd-looking titanium silencer looks quite funky.

Rich,
I reckon i used to ride on certain stretches of road quicker on the "S" than on my RR, especially when there was provocation!
It's the old chestnut about coming across machinery that you KNOW out performs yours so you ride the tits off the bike to prove the opposite!
When was the last time you saw a Porche driven in anger on a public road?

Thing is about the Japanese engines..... they sooo over-engineered for their actual useage that they are never stressed. An engine that's only ever used at 50% of it's pote ntial will last a lot longer than one that's used at 80% regularly.

I do Chris - on a regular basis. And I know that he does miss it at times.
Dare say there's something about owning a bike so ridiculously over the top, so mad, crazy and blisteringly fast. Until one's license cries 'enough' of course

Not regreting buying Crucial's Blade for a second. Lovely machine!
All I need now is some decent weather to ride it properly!
