I would let some other poor sap take the initial hit on depreciation, then pick one up next year when it starts to loosen up at around 12k miles and had all its recalls sorted.

When I looked at the official paperwork on another forum, Hard Luggage was not planned, therefore Givi or someone will have to do it if you want to use the R12S as what you would an R11S

I'd pay that for a new GS, which'll hold its value, but for an S - no way. Like Steve said, let someone else take the 1st hit and buy a year old bike.

Why the extra cost for a 5.5in rim? I thought the upgrade for a 1200S was from a 5.5 to a 6in rim. And it used to be taboo to fit a 190 on a 5.5?

Since the BCR's had a 2.54 ratio, perhaps that is now the standard for a 1200S?

I would agree. The info I have seen so far, even from dealers, is just not clear and consistent yet. As for the base price, well it was never going to be any less was it......?

But as for the options:

£195 is ridiculous considering all BMW grips I've tried are awful, are these magically gonna be better? I don't think so. I go for heated gloves.

The ABS is still too expensive. how about std?

But £445 for sports suspension seems almost reasonable; I mean you can;t upgrade for less can you? unless you currently have two Maxton shocks waiting in the wings for mod and that would be £300 minimum.

£90 for a wider rim is lunacy, espcially as it is totally unnecessary and just adds weight and slow steering. 170/60 anyone?

£175 for an axle ratio seems silly too, why not just get to choose for no cost?

I await the test drive; it will have to dazzle.

I have the original receipt freom the bloke who bought my bike from new in 2000. Heated grips, Remus (addmittedly!), big screen, high bars, alarm, ABS.....

And the price, well over £10K, 6 years ago

Look at it another way. They're a business, and they're out to make money. They spend millions and millions developing it because WE want it. They know they're not going to shift a fraction of the numbers that the japanese bike do - what do we want them to do? Give them away? How much do we all earn? What fraction of a years wages is 10K?

I don't think it is at all bad, all things considered. We all want to earn as much money as possible, we all want to earn 50k and more, but we seem reluctant to spend money towards someone else earning such a wage from someone like BMW.

Having said that - I won't be buying one for about 5 years!

why extra for sport suspension? don't really understand, is the cooking version of the new S not sporty? Its certainly no tourer.....

if jap/italian bikes offer fully twiddleble suspenders (of differing grades for Ducati/Aprillia admittedly) why can't BMW - seems like a case of milking us for extras.....

I might be considering one of these probably early next year & would not want heated grips or ABS which I can understand being offered as an extra - but sports suspension.......

I don't have a problem with the ten grand,but spending that much and haveing to convince my missus to sit on the plank on the back!!!,is even beyond me!!!
