Bugger, bollocks, tits bum and arse. My gearbox has been getting more and more noisy lately. When you pull the clutch in it's as quiet as a mouse but as soon as you engage, like letting the clutch out in neutral, then it starts making a nasty bearing type noise. My old Alfa did this before the thrust bearing went but as the S doesn't have one, I can only guess it is the layshaft bearings. I changed the oil yesterday but it was very very dirty and there was definately a metalic tint to it so I guess that's it buggered. Listening to it this morning has definately made my mind up as there is some quite loud rythmic thumping going on, and I don't think it's supposed to do that.
Why do things always go wrong when the weather turns to s*it?
Still, at least I've got a spare 'box, which is nice

That's not bad going tho eh?! How many miles now....120K?
Mine was showing no signs of wear down to changing the oil every service like the engine.
Anyway only a 5 min job for an old pro like you

Thats not bad mileage as Bailey stated.Good job you got another to swap as i imagine a gearbox rebuild would cost a fair few beer tokens.

Naaaa - I guess it's not bad really and I don't blame the old girl. She's done just over £128k now and at least she didn't leave me stranded at the side of the road in the rain
5 minute job eh Bailey! I'll let you do it and pay you £600 an hour then
I know the routine now at least so I should be able to manage it in a weekend I reckon all going well.
As for the bits Gus - yep, Burton will be fine mate, no problemo, and good luck with the new format bike.
