gearbox

Post by eggcup »

Hi twin heads
Ive Had the BCR since May and put 4000 odd miles on her I knew the BM gearboxes where not up too Suzuki standard but the change up from 1st to 2nd is getting decidly worse and the gear lever has a lot more play than I would expect.
Is this normal and is there any way to tighten the lever?
cheers ian

Ian, check the gear linkage action all the way with your fingers from the lever rubber to the input shaft on the g/box. Chances are something has come loose.

The linkage can also become loose if the gear lever has been adjusted downwards leaving a small amount of thread in the turnbuckle. The locknut will hold it, just, but best to remove and make sure that at least 3 threads on the rod are in the turnbuckle.
I found that changing the gear oil for 75W90 fully synthetic smoothes the gearchange a huge amount. This worked for both ny 6000 miler and my wifes 26000 miler.
