Post by slparry »

So to ease the winter snowbound gloom, and enthused by booking my trip to Garmish for July what trips do other trixters have planned?

Always a good plan, I don't think I'll ever tire of riding up there!

Hi Steve, Happy New Year.

You're absolutely right .... time to plan new adventures.

Sadly we won't make it to Wales this year, we will be in Aberdeen that weekend to see Bryan Adams, while we are all still young enough to strut our stuff.

We will be going to Skye on the bike the following weekend 17,18,19 May .... any trixsters want to come along? Happy to have company.

We are also going to Isle of Man this year .... to see Paul Heaton (Housemartins ...) but that is a car trip. Will show the 911 to the Mountain Course  and then go to Belfast / Titanic / Antrim coast.

Otherwise ... we will be at Brno for the MotoGP, and we have some scuba trips booked home and abroad. We will soon travel to Coral Sea and Micronesia to tick off some more scuba bucket list locations and escape the snow.

....... since Rachel won't let me leave the pension to the grandchildren I need to get it spent .... :D

Mainly van & yacht trips for us this year, we have bought into a yatchshare syndicate in Greece and we regularly sail on friends boats in the UK, I really struggled to ride the R any distance without a lot of pain last year, my joints are the issue not the bike so its likely to be replaced with an Enfield 450/650 or Triumph 400 for short ice cream or breakfast rideouts and possibly trailered behind the van, so no more long trips to Wales etc unless I keep my MR2 and Reg allows us into the soft top crew!

Well I'll be off to Shetland for the annual puffin hunt in June.

Before that, in March I'll be in Tasmania aboard an F750GS, looking forward to it. We did a family road trip there a year or so ago and the roads seem made for motorbikes so I'm off for a Phase 2. Hopefully I'll get a pic or two, and will report back.

James have you ever done the simmer dim in the Shetlands? its a 4 day biking event held on the weekend closest to the 21st June as the longest day. camping live music and plenty of drinking. I used to go every year when i worked up there. Good times and memories.

Ah, indeed... I'm a bit antisocial like that, not a fan of huge crowds - I'm sure I'd enjoy it if I did it, so maybe I ought to get out more. Simmer Dim seems to be very popular, and hence the ferry is chokka with bikes before and after and you have to book super early or be prepared to travel 'hard sleep'. This year I'm going up the week before to avoid the crowds in theory, although I seem to have booked the last room going at The Buccleugh on the way up, and on the way back it's booked up solid so I'm across the road in the Star. So whatever the moans about SNP, Starmer and the economy, holiday taxes and 50mph limits, Scotland seems to be filling up fast even this far out.

Next year I'm planning to take the RS to the Shetland Classic Vehicle Show at the end of May. It's every other year; last year it didn't really fit with other commitments so I'm trying to make sure I get there next year. I'm astonished how people keep classics on the road in Shetland; it's basically down to highly skilled men and girls in sheds. But if you have a modern bike then the nearest dealer is Aberdeen (as is hard core health care, plus all sorts of other stuff we take for granted...). I love it up there though!

Heading to Romania, Bulgaria, Macedonia, Albania and Serbia aboard a GS1250 ADV With Cristian from Moto Tours and Trainings in Aug/Sept.

Last year I rode his Inside the Balkans Tour on a 900GS ADV which was great fun.

Anyone looking to Hire and Tour Cristian is highly recommended plus he is BMW supported so you get the pick of the BMW range of bikes!

Ride safe!

On one of the ride outs with the simmer dim we ended up at a chaps house who in the grounds of his property had a massive sealed out building that housed so many classic bikes id hate to guess the value. I'm sure he turns up at the show with some bikes. you could ask if you could take a visit. I did have photos one time but a hard drive crash on an old laptop everything was lost and could not be recovered.

@Ian, I'll ask when I'm next up. I'm hoping to meet up with the folks from Shetland Classic Motorcycle Club then, and I'm sure they'll know who it is.

@Steve, yay, defo. One to mull at the Welsh Weekend!
