France and Switzerland in the heatwave

Just back from my summer holidays. I spent 16 days travelling through France, Switzerland and Germany on my bike during a heatwave where temperatures hit 38 Celsius, then just spent a week in Corsica with my better half, Helen, in a rental car with air conditioning. Had a great time as usual at Chateau Flash with my mate Evil Dave, then met up with Richard in Chamonix for a week in the alps. I took a load of video footage on my clever 360 camera, which I have yet to edit into shape, but here's a still from some footage taken on the Furka pass in Switzerland:

Corsica was very beautiful, with a load of great motorcycling roads. Not sure I'd take my bike there having seen the standard of driving of the locals though. Risky overtakes on blind bends are a frequent and disturbing occurrence, as well as the thrill of meeting an oncoming car on your side of the road, mid bend...

"Only" got up to 31.5 in southern Germany and that was enough but it was still better than being at work. Didn't take much in the way of pics as the days were quite full on riding - long days on back country roads = slow progress but it was brilliant riding. Motorrad Tours set up a Whats App page so some of the pics should be on their website. If they are, theres a lovely pic of the group of bikes with a white GS in a prominent position with a Boxertrix sticker on it - now who could that belong to?

Very nice as usual Paul, we’re you at Flash in the group and when you edit the footage do you do it to the music or the music to the action.

Hi Phil,

Yes, I was at Flash for this video. Putting the films together, I find a piece of music with a good beat/rhythm, and I cut the video to try and synch to the beats on the soundtrack.

The GS is running well. It started moaning about an overdue service while I was in Switzerland, but I took it to Maidenhead this week for slightly late 6k service and it's running like a dream now. I swapped out the Bridgestone A41 tyres for some Michelin Road 5s, which should hopefully last a little longer.

Yogi, that Insta360 One X camera I'm using is the dog's danglies. I would happily recommend it. It does take more time preparing the footage, but you never miss a shot.

The invisible selfie stick really lives up to its name in the footage. Here is how I mounted the camera for those shots where you see me on the bike from the front, like the still in my first post:

How did you find the Bridgestones? I had Pilot 5 trails fitted to my GS earlier in the year and love them - had Annkees fitted to it from new them Pilot 4 Road Trails fitted now the 5s. Got 8000 out of first set of 4s

How did you find the Bridgestones? I had Pilot 5 trails fitted to my GS earlier in the year and love them - had Annkees fitted to it from new them Pilot 4 Road Trails fitted now the 5s. Got 8000 out of first set of 4s

The Bridgestones were confidence inspiring but their tendency to square off resulting in two front tyres in 7,500 miles is too rich for my blood. So far, in my limited experience to date, the Road 5s are no less sticky, but hopefully will last a bit longer.
