Horns

Doesn't seem to be a previous posting on here.

Is it just me that gets embarassed at the "S" horn, when it works? Sounds like a warning from a 50cc step-thru!! :x I usually rely on a blip from the throttle (full VDL pipes! :D ) which is probably why I didn't realise that the horn was u/s

Bike went for service and I forgot to mention the non-functioning horn-wasn't spotted by the garage so I need to work out why it has died but before I start, has anyone replaced their's with a more macho, "get the feck out of the way" type? Not much room to fit fiammis behind/under the plastic but maybe someone has experience?

You could always try a Stebel Magnum.

I've got one sat in the garage ready to be fitted in place of the pathetic standard item.

Presumably comes with a health warning or ear plugs.

Fitted it tonight, just the job. Not as ear splitting loud as I thought it might be but loud enough to imitate a Scania bearing down on a myopic car driver :D

Hello Chaps,

Sorry for the late comment, just got back from Hols.

I was also disappointed by the S Horn, no better than my first 50CC Moped. They seem to fit the same accross the range nowadays.

I originally had a K100RS 16V which had two Low/High Horns (Car horns really and very loud). I fitted a set of these to my S a couple of weeks back, they just fit, with a bit of jigging around, in the same place as the original, without interferring with the forks and suspension spring....best of all they're loud.

A new set will set you back about £40, or Motorworks sell S/H sets for about £12-15. I went for a new set....it's my pride and joy afterall.

Beep..beep

Regards

Andrew

How easy was it to fit? Did you have to mess around with the fitting bracket or the electrics?

Pretty easy.

1. Disconnect and remove standard horn. File it in the bin.
2. Cut off the BM connector, strip the wires and crimp on the spade connectors supplied. You really need a crimping tool for this.
3. Re-use the BM horn bracket (or you could drill out the hole in the new bracket) to mount the new horn.
4. Bolt back in place of the existing and aim the opening of the horn forward at about 45 degrees from the ground.
5. Connect spade connectors, fit ear defenders and test horn
6. Swing bars lock to lock to check clearance with forks and cables.

I bent my bracket slightly so that the horn was more central but it cleared anyway.

I also tried to be a smart arse and do it without removing the LH fairing but after wasting 5 minutes trying to get two hands into the small workspace gave up and removed it... much easier.

Hello All. Fitted a Magnum this week. It took 2 days to arrive from Nippy Normans. I followed Adams instructions (above) and Wow, go ahead punk and make my day!

Just bought a full Nautilus (mini one due at Nippy's in a few weeks).
About the same dimension as a Magnum.
LOUD OR WHAT!!!!!
I was just not happy with the twin horn set up I had fitted, now I'll wake the dead!
Which is what many of the drivers of the mini cars around here seem to be.
