Centre stand catching.
I am noticing (and being told by Gwen) that the centre stand is catching on roundabouts & corners when we are two up. Yes I have eaten a lot of pies, and she does pack a lot of luggage, both of which increase the problem. Is there a cheap way of increasing ground clearance without taking off the centre stand ? My bike is standard.

Thanks Bailey.bigblackfalco wrote:Reg,your easiest route to success is by putting on a s/h paralever arm from a 1100/1150 GS.
Next option is the Yellow/Gold one from Sweeden and costs about £600!!
Bailey.
The first option looks best, as I will still be able to afford the pies.

Hang on! Are you saying that the GS arm is the same one as is on the S Sport? Does anyone have the actual length details for the various paralever arms.
Bikemad - You could always take off the centre stand to see how you get on without it. It's a quick and easy job to take off and not too much of a strain to put back on again if you don't get on without it.

The problem will go away

Mind you Reg,pies aside,if you put that arm on I'm not totally sure that the centrestand still works properly(reaches the ground properly).bikemad99 wrote:Thanks Bailey.bigblackfalco wrote:Reg,your easiest route to success is by putting on a s/h paralever arm from a 1100/1150 GS.

I'm sure that someone will tell all pretty soon.

My one cost £60.63 in 2002.sandbar wrote:Why? They are only about £40-45 brand spanking new from your friendly local BMW dealer!!bmwonder wrote:Cool! Thanks - I shall nip over to the GS board to see if those boys have one or if there's one up for breaking on ebay.

Forgive me father for I have sinned... ex S owner moved onto pastures new with four cylinders and a chain... and back to a twin, albeit in a V.
Aaaah! Maybe my figure was with a bit of 'trade' discount and before VATadamski49 wrote: My one cost £60.63 in 2002.

Still better to get a brand spanking new one at that level than poncing about with an unknown from flea-bay.
Even better, perhaps Motorworks or Sherlocks might have one. My Sherlocks catalogue suggests £23.50.

Oh, forgot about the sidestand thing. The BCR has a longer stand doesn't it? Things are never simple are they!
It does seem weird to take bits off a giant traillie to make my S go quicker. What else can I use? Replace the belly pan with a bash plate perhaps. Where will it end? Bikemad - Increase ground clearance by selling S and buying GS. Job done!

Right, lets try & get things straight.
Gus, no offence but I think my speed is preferable to yours !
The reason I keep the centre stand is because I have a hydraulic lift in the garage & normally keep the bike on it. It is better on the centre stand.
If I fit the shorter arm off the GS will either of the stands still work OK or not?
Is a diet the best option ?
Why do they put bends & roundabouts on roads ?
Will a sidecar solve the problem ?
