Oh these aren't hand built.Britisherspy wrote:I like those.
I was a keen modeller before I discovered beer and girls, keep promising myself I'll make another go of it each winter but I don't get around to it.
Have to disagree there - mate does model trucks - sprays them with authentic colours and are brilliant, maybe not as robust as die cast but attention to detail is superbfontana wrote:Oh these aren't hand built.Britisherspy wrote:I like those.

I can't be bothered with all that, and besides, nothing you could build out of a plastic kit is going to be as good as die cast.
OK let me put it another way.dave the german wrote: Have to disagree there - mate does model trucks - sprays them with authentic colours and are brilliant, maybe not as robust as die cast but attention to detail is superb
Got a good selection of Rossi race bikes, a Mamola model, RWB Boxercup race bike and a couple of others and a couple of 1100s
Yep, got that one - mine hasn't been crashed thonab 301 wrote:Only my lidl plastic model...

I could never build a plastic kit to this standard.

BTW mine are mostly Minichamps, who make the best die cast as far as I'm concerned.
I do so envy clever people like that.Grip Fast wrote:I met a guy about 20 years ago in Lincolshire, who hand-made one-off model cars to order.
The genuine BMW models are, as it happens, made by Minichamps.slparry wrote:Genuine BMW Miniature 1:10 scale I think, very detailed even has a tank bag and opening removable panniers and a keyring on the key
Nope, sorry that`s art. Most of the die cast stuff is nowt more than landfill and only holds value to those who spend too much time looking back and not where they are going. The kids will skip all the model junk when one is taking sustenance through a straw.Grip Fast wrote:I met a guy about 20 years ago in Lincolshire, who hand-made one-off model cars to order. The models were commissioned by mega-wealthy people who wanted a model of their rare car, for example a classic Bugatti. This guy had a CAD system that he used to create detailed design drawings on. Every nut and bolt had to be accurate.
He then hand made every component, including tyres and spokes. His workshop was like a watchmaker's. I think he said he had orders to keep him busy for 5 years. He wouldn't tell me how much he charge for a model, but he did say he delivered them personally and the delivery charge was a two-week holiday at the model's destination.
Edit: found him - Gerald Wingrove - and one of his models - sold for £12,500
