Randy Mamola BCR Ilmberger front guard query

Post by HarrisBikeNut »

A question re fitting a recently acquired Ilmberger front guard to my 2003 BCR.
The original BCR guard has 2 plastic "chamfered" pieces that clip around the guard on the two bottom fixings. I assume they provide the correct angle and clearance for the bottom of the guard to prevent cracking, stress etc(?).

My question is do these need to be fitted to the Ilmberger? The holes are too small for a start and the guard isn't "moulded" where they would fit as per the original mudguard. My first thought was "No" - Ilmberger would have provided the correct size holes but advice from the vendor of the guard advises filing out the holes and fitting. Anyone have the definitive answer please?

I fitted an Ilmberger and canibalised the plastic bits to provide the correct angle. The mudguard had previously been on a bike so presume the holes had been filed out. I used the plastic pieces cos the original mudguard was cream crackered so didn't need to keep them. I suspect it would fit without

Ilmberger fitting to BCR

Hi Dave, thanks for the reply. More food for thought. I fitted the mudguard this morning with no real issue but just not sure whether to fit them or not. Don't want to run the bike for a few miles and the find it's been damaged because they weren't fitted.... perhaps it can't hurt to fit them to be sure.....
