Are newer versions of bikes better than older models, Fazer, CBR etc.
Do constant improvements necessarily make for a more enjoyable motorcycle ?

Dunno, some yes others no but judging by the reviews of the r1200 lc engine definitely in that instance. Bmw`s gear shift assist looks fun. Generally therefore I would say technology is helping to make things safer and more fun albeit at a price. I am planning to have a dabble at new tech with my next bike

I have one. There is a reason why. Test ride one to make up your own mind.

I think there are developments that make bikes safer, more efficient, easier to ride etc. but my question is, does that necessarily make them more enjoyable to ride.

I ask the question because just recently, I had a ride on a 1982 RD350LC.

I can't remember the last time I had that much fun just riding a bike, even a modern one

Ride a bike this time of year? Not me.

Who needs test rides when we have these guys!

I had a run out t'other day on my ST. Cold, but very nice. I'd put a set of NGK DCPR8EIX plugs in, instead of the usual EKCs. I'll swear it picked up better from low down....or was it just down the cold air...? Anyway, it definitely ticked over better, much smoother than before. Part of my constant development plan...... :D

I would be interested to know who actually as all the dynamic stuff on their bike? really would like an "owners" appraisal of the ESA system and the gear assist also a comparison against the standard front forks as opposed to the esa ones.

Anyone?

I like to ride all year round. The engines always feel to me like they run sweeter on a cold day. I think there's more oxygen in colder denser air.

What was the question? Oh yes...

I enjoy anything with two wheels and an engine, but I like that, with a modern bike, you can set off for a long tour and not worry too much about head gaskets blowing, or big ends failing (like wot you did in my youth). All my bikes since I got back into biking 20 years ago have been rock-solid reliable (famous last words?).

Don't know that I need rider modes - didn't notice any difference on test rides when I fiddled with different modes. Don't have it on my current bikes.

My nightmare scenario is the BMW concept bike that won't allow you to crash it. That's a country mile too far in rider aids (if it ever happens). I ride a motorcycle because it takes skill to ride well (I'm practicing), and if you get it badly wrong it can hurt - and there's a buzz when you get it right. I don't want to be a passenger on a two-wheeled robot, because someone thinks I shouldn't take risks.

What was it Hunter S Thomson said about arriving at your grave, sideways in a cloud of dust on a motorcycle, saying "that was a hell of a ride"?

Found it: Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming "Wow! What a ride." I was almost right 8)

I have ESA on my K12GT and love the ability to have it set to comfort while trucking up the motorway to Scotland and then to flick it over to sport when hitting the Dukes Pass.

If I put it into comfort and pump the front end while flicking it to sport you can really feel the point when it stiffens up.

Since then (2007) it's been refined a lot more and the dynamic ESA on my 12RTLC is linked to the riding modes too so flicking a button to make the bike more responsive from rain to road or dynamic makes the power delivery snappier the traction control less intrusive and the suspension gets progressively sportier.

It's the cherry on the cake that makes the new boxers ride so awesomely. Add in the gear shift assist pro, which is f*cking brilliant!!! If you carry a passenger, no more head butting on gear changes, and the way it helps launch the bike up the road is impressive.... there is a negative..... I have to remember my other bikes don't have it :D
