Greetings to you all!
I have just bought a 1200S as I have always hankered after having one to tinker with

I owned an 1100S some years ago and loved it so am looking forward to getting some miles in on my 1200.
I plan to strip it completely over the winter to get it in tip top shape for next Spring. It has 51K miles on it but looks remarkably good apart from the usual front engine cover and a few rusty bolt heads. The heated grips are knackered - will have to work out how to replace just the grips ?
Motorsport inspired paint job is probaly also on the cards
cheers!

Well I have stripped my R12S down - pics show her naked! There are a few broken bolts to sort and I will probably replace lots of them with stainless. Suspension is off being serviced, wheels are being powder coated, rear subframe and a few other bits also being powder coated. Exhaust will need lots of tlc to get it shiny again

Lots of hours tinkering in the man cave!
Hopefully my pics are inserted ok! - having probs will add more

Welcome along!
You are going to a lot of trouble........ Any thoughts about a new colour-scheme?
Always thought the BMW 1200 yellow was a bit "custardy"

A proper yellow - could be good (and worth an extra 5mph)

Don't go overboard on the pipes - 10 minutes after you've started the engine they'll start to discolour again!!

Sorted out photos - have added 3 more showing progress so far. Previous rebuilds have taught me the importance of bagging & labelling everything!
Bike needs a thorough going over as after 51k miles some bits are tired. Front discs are 0.5mm under wear limit and very badly lipped. Wheels had blisters on them, broken locating pins on rear light etc..... (have repaired with JB weld)
Exhaust - was/ is really manky so a clean will be good. Header pipes will discolour instantly but rest should be ok to keep shiny. It has been de-cated and has I think remus headers with no balance pipe. Stock muffler weighs an absolute ton!
Yellow bodywork is not my favourite so I plan to paint it white and black in a sort of HP2 / motorsport theme. Wheels will be HP2 blue - guy doing them has a perfect match as I found the paint code! Loose plans at the moment which will of course change

Remus certainly doesn't have a balance pipe, and when can I bring my 12s round for a tidy up

thanks for image Phil - I toyed with that shade of blue but have opted for the solid blue used on the HP2 for the wheels - 5002 code.
Where did you get your bike painted- recommend anybody in Minehead / Taunton area?

My bodywork used to belong to Gus, I bought it from him as he was converting his 12s to race in the Euro Boxercup series. The only chap I know off is Andrew Luck, he once painted a seat cowling for my wife's NC30. I believe he has a unit in Williton, maybe worth a try.
