Advice from the trixter massive please?
I'm considering buying a Rexxer Evo hand held thingymabob, it comes with 2 (or is it 3?) maps tailored to your bikes spec, ie aftermarket exhaust and air filter, de cat or std headers etc. these are off the shelf maps for that spec so not particular to your bike per se. You can purchase a more custom map if you send them a Dyno map run after you have blown the supplied Rexxer map into your ECU, at extra cost obviously.
AS I see it with the current exchange rate this will cost me around £360, which is similar to a Hilltop remap, the advantage of the Rexxer unit is that you can reinstall it any time you need and you can buy another map if and when required, the downside is that it will only work on one registered ECU, so if you have more than 1 bike you need more than one unit ( this was always my plan, but is looking increasingly unlikely due to financial emabarrassment)
So my question is:
Has anyone on here bought one? and if so is it the way to go?

Steve, personally I'd go down the dyno route. That way you know that bike is sorted rather than dyno then the remap. Is that not going to be more expensive? Plus no import tax etc and Hilltop seem to have a good reputation. This is just my opinion and I'm very often (invariably!!) Wrong

I have a suspicion that Rexxer maps are over-written at dealer services, but could be wrong on that. I think it is just a case of reloading it though.
I think I would rather have something set up for the "actual" bike - on a dyno.
Geoff at Hilltop is having an open day 5th Sept at Earl Shilton - you could go along and get some questions answered then?
I think his set-up "overlays" the existing map, and he claims that it has an element of "self learning" so can adjust to app 10% variation for returning to stock or cater for addition of say: full race exhaust, velocity stacks etc
For the doubters of Hilltop - there was one GS-owner who went there and Geoff said that the bike was actually perfectly set up, and wasn't going to charge him.
Turns out it was an ex BMW Press bike..............

+1 for Hilltop. 
My 1200ST came out of there a different bike - ignoring anything printed on paper, the good old arse-dyno gave an immediate 'woo-hoo' readout!
Low-speed running sorted, pickup in top from 30....amazing. Worth every penny....although seeing/hearing my bike redlined at a standstill was a bit nerve-wracking!

Thanks Al, yes the Rexxer is over-written by the dealer, but having the hand held unit allows you to re flash it time and again, very interested in the open day, i may just tag along on that one, I have read alot about Geoff and his remap, and have yet to hear a bad word said by anyone who has ACTUALLY had it done, not sure if the dealer over-write is still an issue here though? not that my bike ever sees a dealer apart from recalls, but then there has been two of them this yearBlackal wrote:I have a suspicion that Rexxer maps are over-written at dealer services, but could be wrong on that. Dave, yes I agree that dyno time is a good thing, oh decisions decisions!

As you say - no-one (apart from the odd eejit on UKGSer) has a bad thing to say about Hilltop.
You can consider a Power Commander V (with self-learning capability) - do they do one for the 1200s? or I think - the FRK module?
I think the remap is the way to go - no connections to fail, and pretty sure the Hilltop remap is undetectable to underwriters.........
If the Hilltop remap was anything less than a comprehensive remapping - you would expect consumptions to go up - but if anything ....... they are better after remapping.
Geoff reckons he can remap the R1100s and the R-1 5VY - which were generally acknowledged as being "unmappable/unflashable"

He could always just massage-in the remap using pure angora wool and lanolin - into your bike, while the bike sits at rest in a custom bike-mount, while a Jewish-Catholic choir sings "Oyvey Maria" in the background ..........Boxered wrote:

The initial run before the remap showed my bike made 100.05 hp and 75ft/lb torque, which is quite good I think?
After the magic was applied I now have 116.6 hp and 82.74 ft/lb
The best part of this though is the way it rides, it just has much more zip about it, the throttle response is much improved and it just wants to rev in any gear.
